Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jake LaTurner (KS-02) has successfully secured over $2.6 million in federal funding for Kansas law enforcement and first responders as part of the FY2024 Appropriations Package that passed the House today.

"A surge of violent crime and deadly fentanyl have wreaked havoc on cities and communities across Kansas," stated Rep. LaTurner. "As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I promised law enforcement officers and first responders that I would fight to bring federal dollars back home to Kansas. I am proud that this package cuts federal spending for the first time in a decade while also delivering crucial resources to help our brave men and women in uniform keep our streets safe."

Rep. LaTurner, being the only House Appropriator from Kansas, played a key role in ensuring that the funding priorities for Kansas's 2nd District were included in the final version of the appropriations package.

The funding allocated to various law enforcement agencies and first responders in Kansas includes:

- Shawnee County Sheriff's Office ($1.054M) for a Real Time Crime Center

- Leavenworth Police Department ($350K) for a robotic bomb dog

- Junction City Police Department ($200K) for new body-worn cameras

- Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office ($57K) for technology to ventilate and contain illicit drugs

- Kansas City Police Department ($45K) for a youth engagement program

- Baxter Springs Fire Department ($1M) for the construction of a new fire station

Additionally, the FY2024 Appropriations Package fully funds veterans' benefits and cuts $200 billion of reckless spending over 10 years, marking the first federal spending cut in a decade.
