Cost of college went up for resident students at Fort Scott Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 14.4 percent for 2018-19 at Fort Scott Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kansas residents paid $3,330 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $420 more than the $2,910 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid the same amount as residents this year, or $3,330. Their price tag was reduced 27.5 percent from $4,590 in 2017-18.

About 67 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kansas residents. And about 33 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 271 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.3 million and 133 students took out student loans totaling more than $607,897.

Including all undergraduates (1,868), 1,050 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.2 million, and 417 students took out $2 million in federal student loans.
