Men's Soccer Opens Season In St. Louis

The Allen mens soccer team travelled to St. Louis this weekend to take on St. Louis Community College and Southwestern Illinois College.  They took on St. Louis on Friday Aug. 19th and played to a 1-1 draw after 110 mins.  Both teams had multiple chances to finish a goal on the first half, but neither could find the back of the net.  The Archers got a goal in the 52nd minute to take a 1-0 lead.  The Red Devils would take control of the game after giving up a goal and, created several scoring opportunities.  In the 89th minute, Yuki Ikezaki buried a free kick to tie the game.  The two teams went back and forth in the two overtones to finish 1-1.  The devils finished with 12 shots on goal and Samuel Montañez made ten saves in goal for Allen.

The Devils took on the Southwestern Illinois community college Blue Storm on Sunday, Aug. 21st.  The game started with Allen creating multiple chances on goal, but the SWIC goalkeeper came up big to keep the ball out of net.  In the 30th minute Temesgn Texiera scored on a long ball from midfield that bounced over the keeper and into the goal.  This out the devils up 1-0 and Allen would take that lead into the half.  After half the devils moved the ball from side to side and opened up the blue storm defense and had a couple great chances to go up two.  In the 70th minute Thiago Fernandez played a great ball through the middle to Geovanny Pacheco, who calmly slotted it past the keeper to put the Devils up 2-0.  Allen would control the rest of the game to end it at 2-0. Samuel Montanez recorded the shutout, making 7 saves in goal.  The Red Devils had 15 attempts on goal.

Allen will play at home on Wednesday, August 23rd against Johnson County Community College.
