The Allen Men's Basketball team led for the majority of the matchup against North Central Missouri College on Tuesday night, but some late game miscues caused the lead to slip and the Pirates escaped with a 73-69 win over the Red Devils. Allen came out on fire in the first half as they connected on ten 3-point attempts in the first half of play. Allen led the entire first half and ended the half up by 8 points (38-30).
In the second half Allen would push the lead up to as many as 12 points, but midway through the half the Pirates began their comeback. The two teams would go back and forth in the closing minutes, but North Central was able to capitalize at the rim and at the free-throw line to seal the victory.
Allen made 14 3-point attempts on the night. The Red Devils struggled getting to the free-throw line as they only attempted 4 free-throws for the entire game, and two of those were on a technical foul on North Central. Meanwhile, the Pirates went 16-21 from the free-throw line giving them a +13 advantage from the charity stripe. The Pirates also won the rebounding battle.
Allen was led in scoring by Chris Dixon with 18 points. Brayden Thompson and Donavan Seamster each scored 12, and Ahmed Mahgoub scored 11 points. Allen is now 6-5 on the season. The Red Devils will head to Beatrice, Nebraska this weekend for a classic at Southeast Community College.
