Karenna Gerber paced a balanced offensive attack as the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 74-55 victory over Washburn University Saturday (Jan. 14) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas (13-4, 8-3 MIAA) limited the Ichabods (7-8, 3-6 MIAA) to 12 points in the final period, with five of those points coming in the game's final 57 seconds. Pitt State exploded for 28 fourth-quarter points to break up a back-and-forth contest.
Gerber posted 16 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots, making six of 11 shots from the field. Grace Pyle chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds, posting her second straight double-double on the week. Erin Davis added 13 points on the strength of 3-for-4 shooting from 3-point range, while Tristan Gegg also scored in double figures with 12 points, and Harper Schreiner contributed seven points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Washburn's Aubree Dewey led all scorers with 20 points, while Natalia Figueroa added 11 points for the Ichabods.
The Gorillas will hit the road for Claremore, Okla., Thursday (Jan. 19) to face MIAA rival Rogers State University at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
