Washington, D.C. – On May 11, 2023, Congressman Jake LaTurner (R-KS) voted in favor of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023—House Republicans' border security package. The bill passed the House by a vote of 219-213. Rep. LaTurner issued the following statement:

"It's no secret that the Biden administration's policies have created the worst border crisis in American history. Instead of working with Republicans to secure the border, President Biden is allowing Title 42 to expire tonight—paving the way for a new surge of illegal immigration," said Rep. LaTurner. "The time for action is now. I am proud to support this commonsense legislation to give law enforcement and border officials the tools they need to regain operational control of our southern border."

The Secure the Border Act of 2023 will:

  • Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall
  • Deploy technology to the southern and northern border
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
  • End catch and release End abuse of executive immigration authority
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process
