Rep. Jake LaTurner from Kansas strongly criticized President Biden's upcoming visit to Brownsville, Texas, calling it a political maneuver that deceives the American people. LaTurner expressed his frustration, stating, "Joe Biden's photo op at the border is a slap in the face to every American and community being forced to pay the price for this administration's refusal to enforce our immigration laws."
The congressman highlighted the significant impact of President Biden's immigration policies, emphasizing that the President has the power to end the influx of illegal immigrants with a simple executive decision. LaTurner asserted, "Americans know the President could end this invasion with the stroke of a pen—they won't be fooled by this blatant political stunt."
During Biden's initial 100 days in office, he implemented 94 executive actions on immigration, one of which included ceasing the construction of the border wall. This decision has led to a surge in illegal immigrant encounters, with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reporting 9 million such incidents, including 1.7 million individuals who evaded capture and 169 individuals on the terrorist watch list. Additionally, over 54,000 pounds of fentanyl have crossed U.S. borders since Biden assumed office, posing a significant threat to public health and safety.
Recent data reveals that the CBP's Brownsville, Texas Station is experiencing a relatively low volume of illegal crossings compared to other regions along the border, such as San Diego, Tucson, and El Paso sectors.
