U.S. Senators Jerry Moran, Chuck Grassley, Tammy Duckworth, Pete Ricketts, Amy Klobuchar, and Joni Ernst have reintroduced the Farm to Fly Act. This legislation aims to accelerate the production and development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using existing U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs. The goal is to promote alternative fuels in aviation and create new markets for American farmers.

The act seeks to support SAF development through current USDA programs, clarify federal definitions for SAF, and enhance collaboration between the USDA and the private sector. In September, Senators Moran, Duckworth, Klobuchar, and John Boozman initiated the Sustainable Aviation Caucus to advance the aviation and renewable fuels industries.

Senator Moran stated that "sustainable aviation fuel is a promising alternative fuel source that can provide new markets for farmers while increasing our domestic energy production and security." He added that this legislation would increase biofuel accessibility for commercial use while supporting rural America.

Senator Grassley highlighted that "homegrown biofuels are good for Americans’ pocketbooks, the environment and national security," emphasizing how investing in SAF will expand farmer markets and drive economic growth.

Senator Duckworth noted the importance of increasing American-grown sustainable aviation fuel supply as a step toward making American aviation more sustainable. She expressed pride in reintroducing a bipartisan bill aimed at expanding USDA's collaboration with the aviation biofuels sector.

The act also has support from various agriculture leaders. The Kansas Corn Growers Association emphasized its potential impact on corn-based ethanol as part of SAF efforts with airlines. The National Sorghum Producers expressed gratitude for Senator Moran's efforts behind this legislation.

Delta Air Lines praised the bipartisan leadership on this issue by Senators Moran, Klobuchar, Duckworth, Ernst, Grassley, and Ricketts. They view SAF as crucial for decarbonizing aviation while creating jobs in agriculture-related sectors.

The Farm to Fly Act represents a collaborative effort across political lines to strengthen both agriculture and energy sectors by promoting sustainable solutions within these industries.
