U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, who chairs the Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation, Space and Innovation, engaged in a discussion with Steven Bradbury, President Trump's nominee for Deputy Secretary of Transportation. The conversation centered around key topics such as flight safety, the aviation workforce, and the Essential Air Service program.
Senator Moran emphasized efforts made in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) rulemaking to enhance timely responses and technical standards for innovation in aviation. He stated, “We made significant attempts in the FAA's aviation rulemaking role to improve the ability for the FAA to timely provide answers and provide technical standards to enable new innovation in aviation.”
Highlighting his background from "the Air Capital of the World," where numerous general and commercial aircraft are manufactured, Moran acknowledged ongoing challenges in technology and safety.
The senator also underscored the importance of the Essential Air Service program, noting its impact on Kansas. “Essential Air Service is a hugely significant component,” he said. “Kansas has five airports that utilize Essential Air Service. We are one of the most prolific Essential Air Service states in the country.”
