U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation, Space, and Innovation, has announced a subcommittee hearing following the release of a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The hearing is scheduled for March 27 at 10:00 am EST and will focus on the midair collision involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

"The NTSB’s preliminary report lays the foundation for understanding what circumstances led to the deadly accident over the Potomac that claimed 67 lives," said Senator Moran. He expressed gratitude to the NTSB, FAA, DoD, and other parties involved in the investigation and emphasized his commitment to leading a thorough review of the report during the upcoming hearing. "While this report provides some clarity, I know that nothing will take away the pain felt by the families of the victims," he added.

The collision occurred on January 29 and resulted in significant loss of life. "The midair collision at DCA is a tragedy that has left the families of 67 souls grieving," stated Moran. He highlighted Congress' responsibility to support affected families and ensure aviation safety.

Key federal officials invited to provide insights include Jennifer Homendy, Chairman of the NTSB; Chris Rocheleau, Acting Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration; and Brigadier General Matthew Braman from Army Aviation.

The hearing will be held in Committee Hearing Room Russell 253 and streamed live online.
