U.S. Senator Jerry Moran questioned nominees for key positions during a Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation hearing. The nominees included Jared Isaacman for NASA Administrator and Olivia Trusty for FCC Commissioner.
During the proceedings, Moran addressed Olivia Trusty on several issues including spectrum policy, implementing the 5G Fund, and her objectives for the FCC. He expressed support for her nomination, stating, “Ms. Trusty, I’m pleased by your nomination; I have great faith in you." He also voiced concern over partisanship within the FCC, urging Trusty to address these challenges: "I would encourage you to use every effort to find solutions to these problems and bring the commission together to serve the American people."
In his discussion with Jared Isaacman, Moran focused on NASA's plans for the Space Launch System (SLS), noting its ties to Kansas manufacturing, and emphasizing the Cosmosphere's role in the state. Moran queried Isaacman, “Do you believe the current Artemis architecture featuring the SLS rocket or Orion spacecraft is the best or fastest way to beat China to the Moon?" In response, Isaacman affirmed, "Senator, this is the current plan, and I do believe it is the best and fastest way to get there."
The hearing marked an important step in reviewing the qualifications and plans of these nominees.
