U.S. Senator Jerry Moran participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new University of Kansas (KU) Cancer Center in Kansas City, Kansas. The event was attended by Dr. Roy Jensen, Chancellor Douglas Girod, Dr. Jeffrey Holzbeierlein, Governor Laura Kelly, Bob Page, President and Chief Executive Officer of The University of Kansas Health System, and Tammy Peterson, President of the Kansas City Division of The University of Kansas Health System.
Senator Moran emphasized the importance of the work being done at the KU Cancer Center: “The work being done at the KU Cancer Center is saving lives, and this work will be continued and bolstered by the addition of this new cancer center, expanding the availability of cancer treatment and providing new resources for cancer research.” He added that “the federal investments will help KU build another world-class research and clinical space here in Kansas City that will continue to make KU Cancer Center a global destination for cancer treatment and research.”
As Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science and a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education, Senator Moran played a role in securing $69 million in federal resources to support building and equipping the new facility.
